Associate professor of medicine at Al-Azhar University in Cairo. He is the Executive Director of Presidential initiative for treating one million African hepatitis C patients, Secretary general of the Egyptian Association for Research and Training in Hepato-Gastroenterology (EARTH), executive secretary of Egyptian Society of Crohn’s and Colitis (ESCCO), Secretary General of the African Helicobacter and Microbiota Study group (AHMSG) and is the representative of EARTH at United European Gastroenterology (UEG) meeting of members and national society forum. Alboraie is also a member many international societies including World endoscopy organization (WEO), WEO emerging stars, American Gastroenterology Association (AGA), American College of Gastroenterology (ACG), Asia Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver (APASL), European Crohn’s and Colitis Organization (ECCO), World Gastroenterology Organization (Global Guidelines and publication committees), United European Gastroenterology (Equality & Diversity Task Force) and is a founding member of European Society for Study of Coeliac Disease (ESSCD).

Dr.Alboraie is a graduate of Al-Azhar University in Cairo in 2002. Dr. Alboraie has got his master’s degree in internal medicine and gastroenterology in 2006, membership of the royal college of physicians of London (UK) in 2014, doctoral degree in internal medicine and gastroenterology from Al-Azhar university in 2015, European Specialty Certificate in Gastroenterology and Hepatology (ESEGH) in 2016 and fellowship of the royal college of physicians in 2022. Dr. Alboraie has been trained on basic and advanced endoscopy at Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Magdeburg University in Germany and at Haya Al-Habeeb Gastroenterology Center in Kuwait.

Prof. Hailemichael Desalegn

Associate professor – Consultant Internist, Gastroenterologist/Hepatologist; St. Paul’s Hospital MMC; Director SSA GI Project ECHO, Ethiopia.

He has built successful research collaborations addressing key questions in the area of viral hepatitis and hepatocellular carcinoma. Through collaboration, he has established one of the largest treatment cohorts for Hepatitis B in sub-Saharan Africa. Through this cohort, he has contributed key knowledge in the presentation, natural evolution, and treatment success for Hepatitis B in Ethiopia. He was also involved in simplified point of care tests for Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C viruses. Additionally, he led a study on hepatocellular carcinoma through an award from the International Liver Cancer Association.

Dr Mohammad Shafi Kuchay
Dr Mohammad Shafi Kuchay

He is a Senior Consultant, Division of Endocrinology and Diabetes, Medanta, The Medicity Hospital, Gurugram, India.

Dr Kuchay is active in research on metabolic dysfunction associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) in individuals with type 2 diabetes, Effect of newer anti-diabetic drugs (SGLT-2 inhibitors and GLP-1 receptor analogues) on MAFLD, Epidemiology of MAFLD in India, Clinical pathway for screening individuals with type 2 diabetes for MAFLD-related fibrosis.

 

Dr Kuchay has more than 40 publications in reputed national and international journals.

is a senior hepatologist at the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology, Hyderabad, India.

Dr. Rashid Lui
Dr. Rashid Lui

Rashid Lui is a triple board accredited physician (Gastroenterology & Hepatology, Medical Oncology, Advanced Internal Medicine) with clinical interests in luminal and liver cancers, precision oncology, and gut microbiota modulation. He hopes to leverage his unique skill set to spearhead the development of gastrointestinal (GI) oncology as a formal specialty in the Asia-Pacific region. He has received numerous accolades, most recently being selected as a participant to represent Hong Kong, China in the inaugural class of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) 2021-2022 Leadership Development Program Asia-Pacific.

 

Dr Lui has published in peer-reviewed journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, Gastroenterology, Gut, and Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology. He currently serves as the Founding Co-Chair of the Emerging Leaders Committee, Asian Pacific Association of Gastroenterology (APAGE), and Honorary Secretary of the Hong Kong Association for the Study of Liver Diseases. In addition, he is currently the Social Media Editor of the Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, an Editor and Member of the Expert Advisory Panel on Social Media of the HKMJ, and sits on the Editorial Boards of various other specialty journals.

Tan Soek Siam, MB BCH BAO BA, MRCP, FAMM

 

Dr Tan Soek Siam is a senior consultant in the Department of Hepatology, Selayang Hospital (Malaysia). She was the head of department and head of hepatology service in MOH up until 2017. Dr. Tan graduated from Trinity College, Dublin (Ireland) with honours in Medicine. She did her fellowship in hepatology in the Institute of Liver Study at King’s College Hospital, United Kingdom and also received training in Queen Mary Hospital, Hong Kong and University of Michigan, USA. She had received several awards for her clinical service and her research work from local and international bodies.

Dr. Tan’s research interests include acute liver failure, acute-on-chronic liver failure, chronic hepatitis B and C, autoimmune liver disease, metabolic associated fatty liver disease and liver transplantation. She is the principal investigator of numerous viral hepatitis B and C and non alcoholic fatty liver disease clinical trials. She had won several grants for research and clinical trial funding. She is a member of the Asia Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver (APASL)-ACLF working party, the APASL-ACLF Research Consortium (AARC). She had authored more than fifty publications in peer review journals, Asia Pacific regional clinical practice guidelines, a few book chapters and a reviewer for several peer review journals.

She is a member of the editorial board of the journal Hepatology International. She is the Past President of the Malaysian Society of Gastroenterology and Hepatology 2017-2019, member of the College of Physicians at the Academy of Medicine in Malaysia and a fellow of the Academy and a member of the Malaysian Transplant Society. She is the deputy chair and scientific co-chair (hepatology) of the Asian Pacific Digestive Week 2021.
